Son of Brinkley Gandy (1774-1830) and Leah Nasworthy. Born and raised in Montgomery County, GA where he married 26 February 1829 to Laney Whiddon of Washington County, GA. Max and his new bride moved shortly after their marriage to Leon County, FL where they purchased an 80 acre farm, lived for 5 years and had their first 2 children. On July 12, 1834, shortly after the birth of their second child they sold their farm and moved across the county/state line to join their family in Thomas County, GA where Max farmed and worked at a grist mill on the Ochlocknee river near the Chastain community and the couple had 8 more children. Total issue: 10 children. 9 of their 10 children lived to adulthood. 6 sons and 3 daughters. Mt Zion Church where Max is buried was formed about 1842. Max and Laney are believed to be founding members. When the War Between the States broke out all 6 of the sons served in the CSA. Only 1 perished in the war. Max and Laney lived in Thomas County until their deaths in 1870.
