Helena E. Wagner
MCSHERRYSTOWN - Helena E. Wagner, 90, passed away peacefully surrounded by family on Saturday, April 5, 2008, at the Brethren Home Community, New Oxford. She was the wife of L. Eugene (Gene) Wagner, who died May 21, 1998.
Born October 28, 1917, in Hanover, she was the daughter of the late Pius J. and Bertha L. (Smith) Breighner.
Helena was a life member of Annunciation Catholic Church in McSherrystown, a member of the National Council of Catholic Women, the Forget Me Knots, and the John Timon Reilley Historical Society. She also spent many years as a Den Mother for the Cub Scouts.
Surviving are five children, Robert E. Wagner and wife, Judy of Gettysburg, James K. Wagner and wife, Stephanie of Abbottstown, Mary E. Rhodes and husband, Stephen of Hanover, Jeanne L. Swope and husband, David of Hanover, and Denise A. Miner and husband, Chris of York; 10 grandchildren, Jason, Erika, Jessica, Jeb, and Doug Wagner, Shane, Marc, and Cary Rhodes, and Scott and Courtney Miner; and three great-grandsons, Connor Rhodes, Levi Wagner, and Maxwell Lawson.
She was preceded in death by a son, Allen J. Wagner; and a granddaughter, Erin Rhodes.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 2 p.m. Wednesday at Annunciation Church in McSherrystown with the Rev Lawrence Sherdel and the Rev James Sterner concelebrating. Burial will be in Annunciation Cemetery, McSherrystown. Friends and relatives will be received Tuesday 6 to 8 p.m. at Murphy Funeral Home, 501 Ridge Ave., McSherrystown, with a prayer service to be held at 8 p.m.
