Ronald "Ronnie" Edward Steffek left his earthly world and was welcomed into his heavenly home on August 9, 2023.

He was born on June 6, 1946 in Taylor to JA and Lucy (Beyer) Steffek.

Ronnie attended SSC&M catholic school as a young boy. Growing up he worked on the family farm. He attended Granger High School and graduated in 1964. After high school, he worked for REA (Bartlett Electric Coop).

In 1966, he enlisted in the U.S Navy Reserve where he became a gunner's mate. During his time in the Navy, he served in Vietnam and was a proud veteran. When he returned home, he worked at Alcoa in Rockdale, TX. He worked many hours in the pot rooms and the rodding department. Ronnie played an important role in writing safety procedures for the company.

On October 25, 1969, Ronnie married the love of his life, Peggy Simcik, and together they would build their home and family in Granger. They had three wonderful children, Rhonda, Rebecca and Ronnie.

Ronnie had a passion for music. He taught himself how to play the accordion and would play on Sunday afternoons in the backyard. He enjoyed making stew for the whole family and became the "Stew Master". It was the known dish for Super bowl Sundays, birthdays and any day that ended in "Y".

In 1977, he was asked to fill in announcing a football game and "The VOICE of Granger" was born. He devoted his Friday nights to the Lion Football field for 41 years. Eventually through the years Ronnie began to announce the parades in town.

Other than his devotion to the Lion program, Ronnie's strong faith guided him to serve his church in every possible way. He was a lector, eucharistic minister, song leader, sang in the choir for many years and even played his accordion in church. One priest called him his "spare tire". Ronnie would fill in anywhere needed. His extraordinary voice was also known for singing at many weddings around the central Texas area. He could never say no.

Ronnie and his wife Peggy loved to dance every chance they got. Whether it was Granger, Coupland, Academy, Round Rock or anywhere else, if there was a dance, they were there. They became a staple at dances all over the area. One little girl told everyone that the dance can start now because the "Dancers" have arrived.

Ronnie was involved with the local American Legion Fred L. Stanley post 282, along with being a Knights of Columbus, Catholic Life, KJT, SPJST and SSCM member.

After 38 years of working extremely hard, he retired from Alcoa, however he didn't stay retired long. For 8 more years, he worked for the Williamson County Road and Bridge crew where he made many more friends.

Upon his second retirement, he loved his time at his little house (as he liked to call it). Ronnie and Peggy would spend many hours on the patio swing reminiscing about their life together. He also loved his computer games, which consisted of every version of solitaire.

Ronnie was very proud to become a "Popo" and he loved his grandchildren very much.

He was a gentle giant and a pillar for his community. He will be deeply missed by all.

He was preceded in death by his parents JA and Lucy Steffek, brother Dan "Doc" Steffek, in-laws Clarence and Alice Simcik, brother-in-laws Kenneth Wilkins, George Simcik and niece Trisha (Steffek) Belota.

He is survived by his loving wife of 53 years Peggy, his children Rhonda (Husband Carlton) Tanner of Taylor, Rebecca (Husband Michael) Skrhak of Granger, and Ronnie Steffek II of Bartlett. His grandchildren Michael "Mikey" Skrhak of Granger, Mikayla Skrhak of Stephenville and Ethan and Adam Tanner of Taylor.
