Leah Fay Ferrin Evans

1931 - 2023

Salt Lake City - Our loving mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, aunt and friend, Leah Fay Ferrin Evans, passed away peacefully at her home on May 28, 2023. She was born February 28, 1931, in Salt Lake City, Utah to John Josiah Ferrin and Pearl Leone Shaw Ferrin. She graduated from West High School and attended the University of Utah where she played clarinet in the marching band then worked for A.J. Elggren & Sons, a food brokerage firm, for 4 years until she started her family. She married Preston Davis Evans on August 30, 1960, in the Salt Lake Temple and they enjoyed 46 wonderful years together until his death on August 3, 2006.

Mom loved two things with her whole heart - the Gospel of Jesus Christ and her family. She was an active member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and served in whatever capacity she was called. She served a mission to the Eastern States from 1954-1956. In her ward and stake she served in the Relief Society as Stake Relief Society President, Ward and Stake Relief Society Counselor, pianist, choir director and visiting teacher. She was a service missionary with her husband, Preston, and worked in the Salt Lake Temple alongside him for 14 years. She also served in the Escalante Branch for several years.

She was a loving, loyal friend and visited all the elderly women in her ward no matter where they were. She would visit, care for, and tend to those who were in need. Mom fiercely loved her family and found her greatest joy in being a wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother. She was pure selflessness and would do all she could for any of us. She was kind, loving, supportive, funny, sassy, stubborn, and one of the best people we will ever know. We will greatly miss seeing her smile, hearing her laugh, and hearing her tell us how much she loved us. She enjoyed going for car rides, camping, reading, walking, working in the yard, going out to eat with family and friends, listening to good music, especially barbershop, watching tennis and The Utah Jazz on tv, and never, ever passed up ice cream. If you ever had the privilege of meeting mom, you loved her. It was just impossible not to!

She is survived by her daughter, Launi Pettersson (Frederick), and sons Preston Ferrin Evans and Chad Ferrin Evans. Also survived by grandchildren Mallory Seamons (Matthew), Brandon Pettersson (Chantel), Brittney Johnson (Lee), Connor Pettersson, Brianna Guthrie (Caleb) and great-grandchildren Abigail, Ainsley, Madelyn, Luke, Dawson, Olivia, Cody, William, Hannah, Thomas, Kurrev and Emerhys.

Special thanks to those who watched over and cared for mom, especially Fred and Launi Pettersson, Brittney and Lee Johnson, Tyler and Beth DeJong, Chris Orton, Robin Harden and others too many to mention. She was truly loved! A heartfelt thank you to Applegate Hospice, especially Christine, Yesi, Marina, Mike and Jewels for providing such care and comfort in her last days.

We love you mom and know that there is a great reunion going on with good barbershop music and lots of love and laughter. We will miss you greatly but look forward to seeing you again!
