Irene S. Schacher was born in Denhoff, North Dakota, to Adam and Mary (Maria) Reule Schacher on August 17th, 1915. She married Ralph Monroe Alford in 1933 in Denhoff and had their first child, Audrey, there in 1934. They moved back to Fall Creek township, Madison County, Indiana, in the winter of 1935. They also had two sons -- Roger and Mickey. She had no middle name and just used an "S".
