She graduated from W. W. Samuell High School in Dallas, Texas, in 1959 as part of the inaugural class at that new campus. She was a member of the National Honor Society, Concert Choir, and Starlets drill team.

Sarah met the love of her life, Ralph Wayne McGuffey, in 1954, and in March 1958, they were married in Tishomingo, Oklahoma. They were blessed with two children: Elizabeth Marie (Betsy) born in 1961, and Ralph Wayne, II, born in 1963. Sarah and Ralph raised their family in Dallas, where Sarah worked for Southwestern Life Insurance Company from 1960 until her retirement in 2008.

Sarah was a talented musician, serving as church pianist at Trinity Heights Baptist Church, where her father was pastor, and then at Shiloh Road Baptist Church, both in Dallas, Texas. She had a lovely alto voice, and often sang both as a soloist and with her family at various events and church services.

Faith was a significant part of Sarah's life from a young age. In addition to her musical gifts, Sarah was also a much-loved Sunday School teacher at Shiloh Road Baptist Church, and served as a counselor for the Girls Missionary Auxiliary.

Her favorite pastimes were reading, sewing, counted cross-stitch, and completing jigsaw and crossword puzzles. Sarah also enjoyed listening to music of almost every genre, but especially loved gospel music, whether performed by Elvis Presley or the Gaither Family.

Sarah is preceded in death by her husband, Ralph Wayne McGuffey, and her parents, Rev. O. D. and Beth Christian.

Sarah is survived by her children, Betsy and Brian Gooding and Ralph McGuffey, Jr; grandchildren, Sarah and Jason Lohn, Claire and Skyler Harvey, Rachel and Kevin Barber, and Grant Gooding; great-grandchildren, Cason Works, Cate Works, Theodore Lohn, Amelia Lohn and Eleanor Barber. Other survivors include her brothers and their wives, Jerry and Kaye Christian and Travis and LaJuana Christian, and beloved aunt, Floyse Coleman Little, as well as nieces, a nephew and their families, many cousins, and dear friends.

In lieu of flowers, the family respectfully requests donations to the Alzheimer's Association or the charity of your choice.
