The Ames family came over on a covered wagon from Illinois and settled on/homesteaded on Ames Huntley Rd and Lilly Rd in the south bay area of Thurston County, Washington. Ruby Dee Ames was born the 7th of 9 children to George Reuben Ames and Oval Marina Ames, on 10/29/1943. Ruby was born at home and delivered by her older sister Faye. Ruby grew up on the farm milking cows and helping out on the farm, before and after school.

In her high school years when Ruby was 16, she met her husband to be William Edward Murphy at a roller-skating rink. They got engaged in 1960 and were married June 9, 1961, while Ruby was still in High School at the age of 17. They were married at the little church on Libby Rd. Ruby graduated North Thurston High School in 1962 and had a son August 1962. In the next few years, they had two daughters.

Ruby retired from the Olympia Brewery in 2001. Ruby never let her career at the Olympia brewery get in the way of enjoying her love of her family, farm and animals. She loved riding behind her husband on their Harley in later years as well as going on cruises to other countries. She enjoyed fishing and boating.

She lived many of happy years on the farm and doing the things she loved and passed away on November 27, 2021, at home at the age of 78 years old with her husband by her side.
