Our community sadly lost an important member on Friday, August 5, 2023. We are heartbroken to announce the death of Daniel "Whitey" Ray Baldwin. Born on January 7, 1947, he passed away peacefully at the age of 76, surrounded by his family.

Dan enjoyed watching and playing sports, going to Ayersville sporting events, collecting baseball cards, shopping, spending time with his grandkids, and was always cracking a joke. He loved going to auctions and flea markets. Daniel was the heart and soul of the Ayersville Community. He volunteered for the Ayersville Booster Baseball League for many years and helped out with many Ayersville United Methodist Church activities. You could always catch Dan at football and basketball games or any sport his kids and grandkids were playing at the time. He will leave a big gap in our community and will be sorely missed.

Dan proudly served our country in the U.S. Army as a Medic during the Vietnam War. He was a member of Ayersville United Methodist Church, American Legion #117, UAW #211, and a lifetime member of AmVets #1991 and VFW #3360. Dan worked for several years at General Motors until his retirement.

He leaves behind his wife, Marcia, sons; Bryan (Amanda), Brandon, Benjamin (Jennifer) and Stephen, and daughter, April (Jeremiah) Johnson. He also leaves behind seven grandkids; Amber, Abigail, Eowyn, Jackson, Anthony, Alexis and Ashland, and his siblings, Steven (Joyce) Baldwin and Deb Baldwin.

He was preceded in death by a granddaughter, Eryn, his mother Jane Baldwin, and father Julian Baldwin.

Visitation will be held on Wednesday, August 9, 2023 from 2:00 to 7:00 pm at Schaffer Funeral Home in Defiance. A funeral service to celebrate his life will be held on Thursday, August 10, 2023 at 11:00 am at Ayersville United Methodist Church, with one hour of additional visitation before the service. Rev. Maurice Dunn will officiate. Burial will take place at Ayersville Cemetery with graveside military honors conducted by VFW #3360.

Donations can be made in Daniel's name to St. Jude Children's Hospital, Wounded Warriors, or to a charity of the donor's choice.
