Son of John Alderman,Jr and Susan Newton Alderman. He went to Gadsden Co Fla soon after it was claimed by the US from Spain. He and Susan died at a young age. Children were divided among relatives thru out Fla and Ga. Their burial sites in Gadsden County are unknown.James married 10-11 1823 in Duplin, North Carolina to Susan Newton his double 1st cousin. According to Huxford's Pioneers of Wiregrass GA, James moved from Duplin, NC to Gadsden, FL which was created in 1823 and was one of the first settlers of the new county. Jame homesteaded land, built a home, and cleared a farm. All nine children, 6 boys and 3 girls, of James and Susan were born on this farm.

James, Susan, and their young son, Michael Cooper Alderman b Nov 8 1840, died on this family farm. Susan died Sept 5 1841 and Michael died 2 months later Nov 7 1841; James followed about 4 months later on March 19 1842. James, Susan, and Michael Cooper Alderman are possibly buried on this family farm which may or may not be located in present Gadsden County.

The county location of James and Susan's farm might be located in present counties created from Gadsden after 1840 as James is listed on 1840 Gadsden, FL census. Such counties would include Wakulia, FL created in 1843 and Liberty, FL created in 1855....research needed.

The remaining children ranging in age from 2-18 were taken in by James' brother-Isaac Newton Alderman, and cousin-Daniel Alderman. They had also moved to Gadsden, FL. The children were later sent to live with relatives in Florida counties, Thomas Co, GA or Lowndes Co, GA.

The three daughters during their lifetime including marriage, residence, death or burial are found in the following Georgia counties: Thomas, Lowndes, Berrien, Brooks, and Colquitt.
