THE PARIS NEWS, Fri., Jun. 28, 1996, (Picture) Robert Lawrence ‘Buck' Frierson, 78, Rt. 1, Arthur City, died at 10:04 p.m. Wednesday, June 26, 1996, at McCuistion Regional Medical Center. Fry and Gibbs Funeral Home will conduct services at 11 a.m. Saturday, June 29, in the Chicota Presbyterian Church with the Rev. Richard Gilmer officiating. Burial will be in Presbyterian Cemetery. The family will be at his home. Mr. Frierson was born July 29, 1917, in Chicota, a son of Ora McAteer and Clay Frierson. He was a lifelong resident of the Chicota community where he was a rancher, farmer and hunter. He attended schools in Chicota and was a member of the Chicota Presbyterian Church. During the 1930s through the 1950s he was a professional baseball player, playing with Texarkana, Sherman-Denison, Paris, Dallas, Pennsylvania and the Cleveland Indians. He is survived two sisters, Jessie Hughes and Lavinia Frierson, both of Chicota; one sister-in-law, Johnnie Frierson of Chicota; three nephews, Jack Frierson of Chicota, Billy Hughes of Arkansas, and Robert Hughes of Georgia; two nieces, Carolyn Vanderburg of Dallas and Judy Weatherford of Powderly; and several great and great-great-nieces and nephews. Nephews who will serve as bearers are Jack Frierson, Billy Hughes, Alan Weatherford, Robert Hughes, Sidney Vanderburg and Blaine Frierson. Honorary bearers will be Brian Weatherford, Terry Pierce and Phillip Hughes. In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to the Chicota Presbyterian Cemetery Association or the charity of choice. *THE PARIS NEWS, Mon., Jul. 1, 1996, p.5A.
