Fontana Business Man Is Victim of Sudden Stroke
FONTANA, Dec. 22. Stricken with a heart attack while in the office of a Rialto physician last night, Lemuel Leonard Sawver. resident and business man of South Fontana for the past seven years, died suddenly. He would have celebrated his sixty-third birthday on Christmas.
Mr. Sawyer recently had an attack of influenza and had apparently recovered. He died within a few minutes and the body was taken to the Simpson funeral home where services will be held Saturday at 2 p. m. with the Rev. Herbert S. Dow, of the South Fontana Community church, officiating. Interment will be in Park cemetery, Rialto.
He owned a grocery store at the intersection of Hemlock avenue and the Valley boulevard.
He is survived by the widow, Mrs. Elizabeth Sawyer, and two sons, Louis Lemuel Sawyer, of Fontana, and Lyle Lexington Sawyer, of Hollywood. Two brothers, Lunford Sawyer, of San Francisco, and George Sawyer, of Chicago, as well as a sister, Mrs. May Smith, of Omaha, also survive. Charter Member Of Pythian Lodge, Mr. Sawyer was a native of Henry county,Ill., and before coming here was a businessman in Omaha.
He was also a charter member of the Knights of Pythias lodge of David City, Neb. He was in the office of Dr. W. S. Cherry, of Rialto, when stricken last evening. Mr. Sawyer had gone for what was expected to be the last treatment following his recent illness.
