Terry Lee Gillis, 76, of Erie, Illinois, died Sunday, August 6, 2023 at the VA Medical Center, Iowa City, IA. Services will be held at 11:00 am Tuesday, August 8, 2023 at Gibson-Bode Funeral Home, Erie. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service at the funeral home. Burial will be in the Rock Island National Cemetery. Memorials may be made to Disabled American Veterans.
Terry was born August 21, 1946 in Kewanee, Illinois, the son of Bill, Sr. and Marie (Dickey) Gillis. He served in the United States Navy during the Vietnam War. He retired from Tyson Fresh Meats in Joslin. He was an active member of Erie United Methodist Church. He enjoyed hunting, fishing and his beloved Chicago Cubs and Bears. He loved spending time with his family, his many great friends and wonderful caregivers.
Terry is survived by his daughters, Lisa Tomlinson, Cheryl (Mike) Nelson, Kenissa (Slater) McKay; sister, Tina (Tony) Penney; brother, Alan (Sharon) Gillis, Dane Gillis; five grandchildren; three great grandchildren; and five nieces. He was preceded in death by his parents.
