South Carolina Governor. He was governor for five days in 1915, by far the shortest gubernatorial term in the state's history. Having served as Lieutenant Governor from 1911 to 1915, he was elevated when Governor Coleman L. Blease resigned early, so as not to have to attend the inauguration of his rival and successor, Richard I. Manning.
