Susan Coate of Wheeler, TX passed away on Saturday, August 5, 2023 in Wheeler at the age of 77 years, 3 months and 7 days. Funeral Services will be at 10:00 AM on Friday, August 11, 2023 at Cornerstone Church in Wheeler, with Erron Mercer officiating. Burial will follow at Wheeler Cemetery in Wheeler.
Arrangements are by Robertson Funeral Directors of Wheeler.
Susan was born on April 29, 1946 in Madill, OK to the late Thomas Warren and Willie Bob Nolan. She grew up in Madill and graduated from Madill High School in 1964. She married Mel Ray Coate on July 28, 1989 in Wheeler, TX. He preceded her in death on June 29, 2022. Susan held various careers over the years. She was a 43-year resident of Wheeler, where she owned and operated the Antique Cupboard. One of her favorite hobbies was quilting. She also enjoyed traveling and especially enjoyed going to casinos with her son and grandson, Wayne and Garrett. Susan was a very generous person who helped anyone in need. She adored her children and grandchildren and never met a stranger. She was known as "Granny" to young and old alike in the community.
Susan was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Mel Ray Coate; 2 brothers, Harold Rabon and Warren Penick Rabon; 1 sister, Rosemary Green; and 1 grandson, Jacob Benefield.
Survivors include 2 daughters, April Hopper and husband, Steve of Wheeler and Mechelle Coate and husband, Dustin Marks of Celina, TX; 2 sons, Wayne Benefield of Wheeler and Daniel Benefield and wife, Stephanie of Miramar Beach, FL; 6 grandchildren, Savannah Hampton, Garrett Hampton, Nathan Benefield, Bethany Benefield, Heather Sachse and Brady Coate; 5 great grandchildren, Jackson Glassey, Paeten Lewis, Rylie Benefield, Dylan Means and Scottie Sachse; and numerous nieces, nephews and longtime friends.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorials be made to Cornerstone Church, PO Box 523, Wheeler, TX 79096.
