They were sentenced to terms of imprisonment, suspended however to give them the opportunity of paying up arrears. In Feb 1895 his father was in court for also failing to comply with two charges of failing to provide 10s a week maintenance for his wife and 3 children, being arrears of £12. He was sentenced to two months hard labour. He had already served a term of one month on a similar charge,
