1 of 6 children of Morgan Ward O'Meara (1854-1918) of Tasmania & Mary Baker (1865-1928) of Sussex, who married in Masterton in 1882. His father was a Painter in Masterton.

In Oct 1894 his father and two of his brothers (named Johnston) were arrested in Pahiatua for failing to comply with orders of Court for the maintenance of their mother. They were sentenced to terms of imprisonment, suspended however to give them the opportunity of paying up arrears. In Feb 1895 his father was in court for also failing to comply with two charges of failing to provide 10s a week maintenance for his wife and 3 children, being arrears of £‎12. He was sentenced to two months hard labour. He had already served a term of one month on a similar charge,

His mother next married Edward Thomas Geange in 1913. She next married Frederick Morshead in 1928

* The friends of Mr M. W. O'Meara are respectfully invited to attend the Funeral of his late infant son, Morgan Albert, which will leave his residence, Dixon street, to-morrow (Sunday) afternoon, at half-past four o'clock.
