Daughter of Robert Henry Forrest (1905-1953) & Alice Elvra Cowles (1901-1981)
. Alice remarried in 1939 to George Duncan McDonald

Leonie married Leonard Charles 'Ted' Perano (1929-) in 1956
. Ted was born into the Perano whaling family of Tory Channel, great grandson of Agostino Giovanni Perano who emigrated to NZ c1864, but as a keen fisherman in search of better fish stock, he moved to Picton in the 1880s. The Peranos set up three whaling stations and were the first to build high-speed, motorised whale chasers, and hunt with bomb lances. The day after the Perano whaling station closed in 1964, NZ banned all whaling. The station has since been converted into a hut from which to count Cook Strait whales.

Leonard grew up at Wairau Bar, worked for agricultural contractors and then in whaling at Tory Channel from 1947 - 1957. Keen rower. Worked on scow Echo. Worked in freezing works in Wanganui and Gisborne. Retired to Blenheim.
