Albert Johnson McCracken Jr. died peacefully at home on May 27, 2018. He was born Feb. 28, 1932, and was the son of the late Albert and Myrtle McCracken of Waynesville. After serving in the US Army, he earned a degree in Mechanized Agriculture from North Carolina State University. As an engineer with the US Soil Conservation Service he designed the lake and dam at Dan Nicholas Park. Later he and his wife owned McCracken Farm and Garden and Albert McCracken Realty. He served as president of the Salisbury Board of Realtors and was an instructor of real estate at Rowan-Cabarrus Community College. He was a decades-long member of Shiloh United Methodist Church. His special interests included clocks, pocket knives, maps, and World War II history. In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by his brothers, Carroll, Ernest, William and David; and his sister, Mabel Bryson. He is survived his by wife of 61 years, Pauline (Polly); his children, Peggy McCracken (Doug), Tricia Clement (Dan), Nancy McCracken, and Charles McCracken (Kim); six grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; his sisters, Peggy Briggs (Bruce), Evelyn Sutton, Mary Frances Gray; and his brother-in-law, Carroll Bryson. The family thanks Dr. Sean Malone for 18 years of friendship and excellent medical care. Arrangements: A celebration of life will be held this Saturday, June 2, at 2 p.m., at Shiloh United Methodist Church, Granite Quarry. Visitation will follow in the fellowship hall. Memorials: In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Shiloh United Methodist Church (P.O.Box 315, Granite Quarry, NC 28072).
