Sheldon H Mellor passed away June 22, 2023 in Gunnison. He was born on June 28, 1927 in Gunnison to Norval Henry and Leah Wintch Mellor.
As a young boy he would herd cattle and turkeys down by the river. He graduated from Gunnison Valley High School in 1945. After graduating high school he enlisted in the Merchant Marines during World War II. He sailed both the Pacific and Atlantic oceans and loved to sail.
He also served in the US Army during the Korean War.
While in the service he read the Book of Mormon and it brought peace to his soul. Following his service to his country he served a mission for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. Upon returning from his mission he moved to Nevada and started working for Atomic Energy.
He married Patricia Rust and started a family; they had 3 children. He was always active in the Church and served in many different wards and callings. He served in the Las Vegas temple when it opened and was still serving in the Manti Temple.
Retirement moved him back to Fayette, where he loved to spend time hunting, fishing and being outdoors. He would plant big gardens with lots of tomatoes.
He is survived by his children: Robin (Michelle) Mellor, Linda King, David Mellor; 7 grandchildren and 8 great-grandchildren.
Preceded in death by his parents; son-in-law, Steve King; and grandson, Travis King.
Funeral services will be held Saturday, August 5, 2023 at 12:00 Noon in the Fayette Ward Chapel, where friends may call on Saturday from 10:00 to 11:30 a.m. Burial will be in the Fayette Cemetery with military honors by the Centerfield American Legion Post #105.
