Shirley Lee Felkner, age 85, of Fort Myers, Florida, formerly of Centerville, passed away April 16, 2022 in Fort Myers, Florida.
Shirley was born on October 16, 1936 in Davenport, Iowa, the daughter of Victor Herman Creedon and Sarah Elizabeth (Van De Venter) Creedon. Following high school graduation, Shirley continued her education obtaining her Bachelor's degree in Education from Iowa State Teachers College. On August 10, 1983, she was united in marriage to Byron Gotch Felkner in Love Grove, Iowa.
Shirley was an elementary teacher for several years in Iowa City. In her free time, Shirley enjoyed reading, sightseeing, beaches, sea shells and watching college football, especially the Iowa Hawkeyes. Shirley's second love of her life was her cats. She treated them like her children, even having photos of them all around her home. She also had a deep love of Broadway musicals.
Left to cherish Shirley's memory are her nephews, Craig (Theresa) Seghers of Long Grove, IA, Mark Seghers of Long Grove, IA, Brian (Dina) Seghers of Buffalo, IA; her niece, Monica (Stan) Hayes of San Francisco, CA; three great nephews, Garrett Seghers, Brittany, Blaise Seghers, and Westen Seghers; as well as several extended family members and friends.
Shirley was preceded in death by her husband, Bryon Felkner on September 30, 1997; her parents, Victor and Sarah Creedon, and her sister, Beverly Seghers
Visitation will take place Wednesday, August 9, 2023 at Thomas Funeral Home in Centerville with the family greeting friends from 10:00 -10:30 AM. A Celebration of Life service will be held at 10:30AM, Wednesday, August 9, 2023 at Thomas Funeral Home in Centerville. Inurnment will follow the service at Felkner Cemetery, west of Centerville. In lieu of flowers, memorials in honor of Shirley may be written to Felkner Cemetery, for future upkeep on the cemetery and may be mailed to Thomas Funeral Home, ATTN: Felkner family, 501 North 18th Street, Centerville, Iowa 52544.
