Staff Sgt. Travis Griffin of Springboro, Ohio and Dover, Delaware was born in Naha, Okinawa, Japan, and traveled within the military world from base to base, never establishing roots anywhere. His mom and step dad were both on active duty. Travis had served in the Air Force for nearly nine years. He was competent and confident but not arrogant and had a capability and a charisma about him. He was on his fourth tour of duty and his mission in Iraq was much more dangerous than what most airmen are confronted with. When everyone else would be dragging, it seemed like he was never worn out. His lot in this world was to train people. He used humor, sometimes self-deprecating humor, to get his points across. Travis was to return to the United States in just 15 days. He was killed in an explosion in central Baghdad at age 27. He is survived by a wife and a 5-year-old son.
