She was born on June 10, 1928, in Dyersville, Iowa, daughter of Francis Albert and Anna (Freking) Bergfeld.

She married Paul McAllister on Oct. 22, 1947, at Holy Family Catholic Church, New Melleray, rural Peosta, Iowa. Together they farmed in the Otter Creek area until they retired and moved to Dubuque.

Myrtle was a very active member of St. Lawrence Parish, Otter Creek, and became a member of Resurrection Parish after moving to Dubuque. She also was a member of the Power of Prayer.

She especially enjoyed getting together with her friends and playing cards. Myrtle will be remembered for her generous, kind-hearted nature and her warm, friendly smile. Her first priority was always her family. Her dedication to adapt to life's ups and downs became a fine example of how to live a life.

Surviving are three daughters, Karen Strane, of Minneapolis, Kathy McAllister, of Williamsburg, Iowa, and Beverly (Robert) Mausser, of LeClaire, Iowa; a son, Michael "Mick" McAllister, of Zwingle, Iowa; 15 grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren; two brothers, Francis Albert Bergfeld Jr. and Charles (Jeanne) Bergfeld; and many nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Paul; a daughter, Judy Shearer; a son, Kenneth McAllister; and a brother, William Bergfeld.

Myrtle's family would like to extend a sincere thank-you to Hospice of Dubuque and all the medical professionals who lovingly cared for Myrtle. A very special thank-you to Dr. Hermann and his staff for their tender, loving care of our mother.
