Services for Timothy Joseph Gates of 413 E. Virginia will beheld at 2 p.m. Thursday at the Strode Funeral Home Chapel. Gates died on Monday, Nov.12, 1984 in Baptist Medical Center in Oklahoma City.
The Rev. Dan Salvesen will officiate, interment will be at Bethel Cemetery, Glencoe under the direction of Strode Funeral Home. Hanner-Sharp American Legion Post 129 will conduct a flag presentation at the cemetery.
Gates was born in Stillwater on Sept 24, 1913 the son of William Myers and Sarah Gates. He married Lucille Pearl Stout on May 8, 1971.
In 1935 he served in the U.S. Navy and later served in the Merchant Marines. Gates retired with honors from the U.S. Air Force in 1965 and returned to Stillwater.
His parents, two brothers and a sister predeceased him.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by a son Roy Allen Gates Strathmore, CA; a daughter, Mrs. Shirley Ann Kinman Visalia, CA; four step-children Reta J. Bliss of Pond Creek, Barbara S. Nelson of Frankfurt, Germany; Jack D. Stout of Stillwater, and Leroy F. Stout of Mulvane, KS; 13 grandchildren, 1 step-grandchild.
Also two brothers, Leroy O. Gates Palvadera, NM; and Henry O. Gates of Perry, and four sisters, Margaret Mick, Jennie B. Wilkerson, and Josephine Mick, all of Stillwater and Mary Dennison of Stanley, NM.
