Robert L. 'Baldy' Shearer, 91, of Clearfield died on Tuesday, July 25, 2023 at Christ the King Manor, DuBois

He was born on June 9, 1932 in Clearfield, a son of the late George and Grace (Rothrock) Shearer.

Baldy was employed with the Clearfield Area School District as a Health and Physical Education teacher for 37 years, retiring in 1993. During his tenure at the school, he coached football, basketball and swimming. Baldy was a board member of the Clearfield Community Swimming Pool Association and served as manager of the pool since its inception in 1966. He enjoyed music, especially jazz, dancing, family gatherings and attending Penn State football games. His grandchildren brought him so much joy and he loved watching them change as they grew older. Baldy also enjoyed seeing how his students and athletes progressed and succeeded through the years. He will be remembered for making people laugh by telling jokes and dressing up in costumes. His greatest blessing was the love he felt and received from his family and friends.

He was a member of St. Francis Catholic Church, the Benevolent and Protective Order of the Elks Lodge #540, the Clearfield Sports Hall of Fame, and the Pennsylvania Sports Hall of Fame. He was a graduate of Clearfield High School and earned a bachelor's degree from Lock Haven State Teacher's College where he lettered in football, basketball, and track, and was a drummer in the jazz band.

He is survived by his wife, Margaret D. (Belin) Shearer whom he wed June 20, 1959 in Clearfield; four daughters, Janet Howard and husband Dr. Robert, Judy Reale and husband Dominic, Kristin Shearer, and Lisa Shearer; ten grandchildren, Christopher Howard, Kyle Howard, Kurt Howard, Anthony Reale, James Reale, Matthew Reale, Jason Reale, Abigail Shearer-Everhart, Jackson Shearer-Everhart, and Donny Shearer-Everhart; and five great grandchildren, Evelyn Howard, Madelyn Howard, Nathan Reale, Aiden Reale, and Nolan Reale.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a sister, Pleasant Peters; and a brother, George A. Shearer.

Mass of Christian burial will be said at the St. Francis Catholic Church, Clearfield on Saturday, August 5, 2023 at 10 AM with Fr. Robert J. Horgas as celebrant. Interment will be private.

Friends will be received at the Beardsley Funeral Home and Crematory, Clearfield on Friday, August 4, 2023 from 4-7 PM and on Saturday, August 5, 2023 from 9-9:30 AM.
