David Castro JR was born April 18, 1950 to David and Frances Castro in Kansas City Missouri. The only boy, "Pete" was surrounded in the home by his three sisters: Patricia, Tina and Deanna. He grew up in the Northeast area of Kansas City, and attended Northeast High School. Upon graduation, he got into the sheet metal trades. Later in life he pursued a career in CAD drafting/drawing. He also had a passion for woodcarving, and was a past member of the Kansas City Woodcarvers Club. His specialty was Carousel Horses, as well as carving Santas for Christmas gifts. His precision translated into any "fix it" project he took on. Something as simple as putting street numbers on the house took hours of planning and measuring! And he never threw anything away the garage was full of items that might come in handy. someday.
He definitely possessed the gift of gab from current events to how it was done in "his day". A simple question from the grandchildren would lead to a dissertation from how to repair a 1966 Chevelle, or how to train for a sports competition. Always the proud pappa he would highlight the careers of his children: Michelles love and compassion as a nurse, David & Joe Mikes accomplishments as a firefighter and Captain in the Kansas City Missouri fire department.
He found his true love later in life and married Elaine in 1999. They enjoyed sports, concerts, grandchildren and traveling -especially to locations that housed a carousel museum or an old carousel like the one in San Diego. Elaine was there to share in the ups and downs of his health in recent years -never giving up hope that he could become a little more mobile.
He died October 23rd, surrounded by family. He was preceeded in death by his mother, Juanita "Frances" Castro, and granddaughter Olivia Raychelle Burton. He is survived by his wife Elaine, Father David, children Michelle Castro, David Salvatore Castro, Joseph Michael Castro, and step son Jacob Kanatzar, sisters Patricia Carillo, Tina Castro, Deanna Meade, 8 Grandchildren, and 2 Great Grandchildren.
A special thanks to Keelie, his caregiver who always knew how to make him laugh, and his nurse Kathy with Traditions Hospice.
