McMAHON, Joseph F., Jr. of West Los Angeles passed away as a result of complications following surgery for oral cancer. He was born October 12th, 1926 in Cleveland Ohio, the only child of Joseph "Frank" McMahon and Kathleen Daly. He was raised by his grandmother and uncles from the age of three after the death of his mother. His father moved to California to work for Standard Oil, and later founded Formax Oil Company in Taft, California. Joe attended Saint Ignatius High School and John Carroll University in Cleveland, OH. He served in WWII in the Army Air Corp, and was stationed in Europe. A pioneer in the California Petroleum Industry, he served as President of Formax Oil Company for 15 years and was an officer and consultant for the Independent Oil Producers Agency. A resident of West Los Angeles for more than 45 years, for the past ten years he has divided his time between Los Angeles, San Diego and Mazatlan, Mexico where he had business interests. He is survived by his wife of 51 years Patricia, children Joe (Cindy) and Kathleen (Robert Schmit), and 5 grandchildren, Michael, Thomas, Kaitlin, Joseph and Robert. He was a member of Saint Jerome Catholic Church. He will be remembered for his love of Pacific sunsets, mariachi music, Los Angeles history, as well as his quiet strength, confidence, sense of humor, and love for his family.
