Brought Before Magistrate
John Kennedy Liptrott, formerly employed in Carterton, who attempted to commit suicide by cutting his throat with a pocket knife, in York street, early on the morning of Sunday, November 14th, has now recovered from the effects of his rash act and was brought before Mr Free, S.M., at the Magistrate's Court this morning. Liptrott, who consented to a prohibition order being issued against him for twelve months, was convicted on a charge of attempted suicide and was ordered to come up for sentence if called upon within two years. He was also ordered to pay £23 17s expenses withing three months.

John Kennedy Liptrott, single, a gardener, committed suicide by cutting his throat with a razor. At the inquest evidence went to show that Liptrott had suffered from delusions, the result of heavy drinking and a verdict of suicide while mentally affected was returned.
