Son of Hugh William and Camilla (Shafto) Adair. Married twice. Firstly, to Elizabeth Maria Strode in 1810. They had two sons, Robert and Hugh. After her death in 1853, the following year he married Jane Ann Clarkson. They had no children. Sir Robert was created 1st Adair Baronet of Flixton Hall in 1838. After his death in 1869 his oldest son, Robert Alexander Shafto Adair, inherited the baronetcy.
