S. A. Swanson, one of the pioneer Swedish residents of this place, died at the home of his daughter, Mrs. Charles Erickson, west of Porter, on Christmas day, of heart disease, aged 63 years 8 months and 11 days. Mr. Swanson was born in Sweden, April 14, 1839, and came to this country with his family in 1868, coming direct to Chesterton. He remained here until about ten years ago when he went to Kansas to live, and returned to this place about three weeks ago. During his residence here he was one of the most widely known men in this section of the country and had many friends among all classes. He leaves a wife and seven children, three daughters and four sons, to mourn his death. The funeral was held last Saturday afternoon at the Baillytown Swedish Lutheran church, being attended by a large assembly of friends and acquaintances, Rev. M. J. Lonner conducting the services. The remains were laid to rest in the churchyard.
