Duane F Brobst , 77, Pullman, died Saturday, July 14, 2001, at Pullman Hospital.
Duane was born October 8, 1923, at Medicine Lake, Montana, to Herbert and Inez Wigmore Brobst.
In 1931 the family moved to Twin Bridges, Duane graduated from high school at Ennis, Mont. He
attended Montana State University and in 1943 enlisted in the United States Navy, serving in World
War II until his discharge in 1946.
He attended the University of Southern California for which he recieved his bachelors degree in
1949. Duane recieved his doctor of veteriinary medicne in 1954 from Washington State University,
a masters in public health from the University of Pittsburgh in 1957 and his doctorate of veterinary
medicine from the University of Wisconsin in 1962. While at the University of Pittsburgh he married
Mary Elizabeth Bates who preceeded him in death in 1969. Duane practiced veterinary medicine in
Ontario, Oregon, and Plentywood, Mont. He taught at Purdue University until 1970, when he
accepted a position at Washington State University as professor and head of the Clinical
Diagnostic Laboratory.
Duane married Janice Wasson on Nov 27, 1970 in Pullman. He was a member of the American
Veterinary Medical Association, American College of Veterinarian Pathology, Phi Sigma, Phi Zeta,
Sigma Xi, and the American Society of Veterinary Clinical Pathologist. Duane was always involved
with the community. He was active in the YMCA Indian Guides, Methodist Mens Associations,
Little League Baseball as father and coach, and Boy Scouts, and served as president of the
Developmental Disabilities Board for Whitman County. He was always concerned about Pullmans
water aquifer and acquiring land for the Magic Forest Conservation Project.
He was a member of the Simpson United Methodist Church and was a volunteer for the library and
Habitat for Humanity. He is survived by wife Janice, of Pullman, two sons, and their spouses,
Will and Paula Wasson of Seattle, and Todd and Robyn Brobst of Juneau, Alaska, a daughter and
her husband Amy and Jeff Mullins of Phoenix; two sisters, Audrey Triplett of Twin Bridges and
Grace Theige of San Diego, and four grandchildren. He was proceed in death by a son Clay in
1990 and one sister, Esther Sommers.
A memorial service will be held as Simpson United Methodist Church Pullman, Wednesday at 10:30
a.m. The Rev Rand O'Donnell of that church will officiate. Arrangements are under the direction of
the Kimbal Funeral Home.
Memorials are suggested to the scholarship fund for Boy Scout Troop 460 at the Simpson Methodist
