Funeral Held at Koosharem Cladius Hatch

Funeral services were held Friday in the Koosharem hall for Claudius Hatch, 44, who died at his home on the evening of February 25, after but a few hours illnness.

Mr. Hatch and his son Burus had gone to the hills east of Koosharem Tuesday afternoon after a load of wood. Mr. Hatch felt well when they went but while loading the wood he was suddenly stricken with a severe pain in his head and told his son they would have to return home. The boy managed to assist his father in climbing onto the load but after going a short distance the boy was startled by the groans of his father and looked around just in time to see him falling from the load of wood. Burus jumped to the ground and caught his father but Mr. Hatch was unconscious and as Burus could not lift him back on to the wagon he wrapped him in their coats, mounted one of the horses and hurried to town for help. A physician was summon but Mr. Hatch passed away at his home a few hours later. Death was attributed to a stroke.

Bishop E. C. Bagley presided at the funeral services which were attended by many relatives and friends from Koosharem and neighboring towns. The speakers J. F. DeLange of Koosharem, Alonzo Black of Antimony and Lee Brown of Richfield, offered consolation to the bereaved family and spoke with respect of Mr. Hatch as a citizen and friend, whose cheerful disposition won him the love and respect of both old and young. Sentiments from the old folks committee on which Mr. Hatch and his wife had served for fourteen years were read by Mrs. Alvin Helquist. Musical numbers were "Sometime We'll Understand," "I Know That My Redeemer Lives," and 'Shall We Meet Beyond The River," by the Koosharem ward choir, with Mrs. Roland Anderson as accompanist. "Rock Of Ages," by a quartet composed of J. F. DeLange, Ellis Badley, Ben Bagley and Roland Anderson; "Sometime Somewhere," sung as a duet by Eva and Coneta Brown and "That Silver Haired Daddy Of Mine." a duet by J. E. Christensen and Ellis Bagley. The invocation was by Andrew Anderson; the benediction by 0. H. Anderson. Lewis Hatch dedicated the grave interment being in the Koosharem cemetery.

Claudius Hatch was born at Koosharem, November 24, 1892, a son of Mr. and Mrs. Isaac Hatch. He is survived by his widow Mrs. Melinda Christensen Hatch; two sons and three daughters, Lavar Hatch of Richfield, Burus Hatch of Koosharem, Mrs. Lavar Knight and Mrs. Marvin Fairbanks of Annabella and Vilate Hatch of Koosharem, five grandchildren, his mother, three brothers and three sisters: Leroy Hatch of Richfield, Vernaldo and Leston Hatch of Koosharem, Mrs. S. E. Tanner of Loa, Mrs. Albert Delange and Mrs. James Schaugaard of Koosharem. His father and five brothers preceded him in death. Mr. Hatch served for four years as mail carrier between Burriville and Greenwich.
