Arnold Jerome Braunskill

Arnold J. Braunskill, 75 of Dover, Delaware, husband of Theo L Lewis-Braunskill, passed away on Monday, July 10, 2023, at Christiana Hospital with his wife by his side.

Arnold was born on November 9, 1947, the son of the late Clarence and Dorothy Braunskill. He grew up with 4 brothers in Riverhead, Long Island, New York.

Arnold graduated from Riverhead High School in 1966. During his high school career, Arnold was an outstanding athlete, setting multiple school and State records in track and field low hurdles.

After high school, Arnold served in the U.S. Air Force and trained as a Jet Engine mechanic. He did his military training in San Antonio Texas. He was stationed in Okinawa, Japan and Dover Air Force Base in Dover, Delaware where he met his wife, Theo of 55 years.

Arnold attended Suffolk Community College where he earned his Associates Degree in 1975.

Arnold started his working career in 1970. He worked at Treat Potato Chip Company, and United Parcel Service as a driver and then worked 33 years for Long Island Lighting Company as an A1 Jet Engine Mechanic in the IC Division. During that time, he also had a passion for photography, and he turned his hobby into a photography business.

Arnold led in community activism and was on the founding board of the Riverhead Charter School which opened in 2001. He co-led a summer track team for young people for several years reaching dozens of youths on the east end of Long Island. Arnold was recognized by the NAACP for these community efforts.

Arnold's pride was his family. He was a dedicated husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather. He expressed how proud he was of his family and how important family was to him. He became a family historian, with his interest in tracking family genealogy that took him as far back as 1800 Virginia and beyond. Most recently he spent evenings connecting with extended family and mailing packets of photos and genealogy to keep them connected to their family history.

Arnold was a member of the local American Legion and Delaware Veterans Association. He also met regularly with his Coin Club friends. Additionally, he had numerous interests, hobbies and collections.

Most of all, Arnold devoted his life to studying and serving the Lord. He was active in his church and was passionate about his faith. He was a member of the Worldwide Church of God and the United Church of God for more than 50 years. He regularly shared his knowledge and moments with those who inquired about his understanding of God's word. His patience and gentleness made him easy to listen to and learn from.

Arnold was preceded in death by two brothers; Anthony and Leonard.

Arnold leaves to mourn his passing, his wife Theo Braunskill; his children, Kim Braunskill-Williams (Charles) of Dover, Delaware, Kevin Braunskill (Shantal) of Dover, Delaware, Kesha Braunskill-Fields (Matthew) of Smyrna, Delaware, Amanda Penulela of Dover, Delaware, Felicia Califano (Troy) Tobyhanna, Pennsylvania, Justin Braunskill of Bellport, New York, and Clifford Cornish, of Queens New York; four sisters, Sheryl Cason and MaryAnn Braunskill of New Jersey, Ronell and Tondalaya Braunskill of Cincinnati, Ohio; six brothers, Bruce and Wayne of New York, Richard of Hawaii, Gerald and Dana of New Jersey, and Andre of Cincinnati, Ohio; 15 grandchildren; 3 great-grandchildren; and a host of cousins, nieces, nephews, other relatives, church family and dear friends.
