Reuben Hill was a US Revolutionary soldier who enlisted in the fall of 1780 in the 4th New York Regiment in Captain Jeremiah Shaw's Company under the command of Colonel Killian Van Rensselaer, which later in 1781 merged into the 2nd New York Regiment. While merged in the 2nd New York Regiment, his company was at the Battle of Yorktown. On January 1, 1783, Reuben Hill was discharged as a Private and received a military pension.

He later married Patience Reynolds and they had a son, Seth Hill.
