N. Vernon man suffers fatal shock
An elderly North Vernon man was electrocuted Thursday morning while working on an air-conditioning unit at his home. Dead is Charles Herschel Walls, 76, West O&M Avenue.

Walls was working on the unit with a metal screwdriver while the air-conditioner was plugged in when the 9:23 accident occured, said Jennings County Coroner Jerry Sharp. While the shock might not have been fatal under normal circumstances, Walls had a history of heart trouble, and the combination of the shock and his weak heart was too much, Sharp explained. Walls was dead when Rescue 20 ambulance people arrived on the scene.

Walls had owned a cabinet shop in North Vernon. He was a member of Hazard Methodist Church in Hazard, Ky.

Born Oct. 15, 1910, in Caryville, Tenn., Walls was the son of Charlie and May Walls. He is survived by his wife, the former Marie Miniard.

Other survivors include a daughter, Johnnie Miles of Columbus; three sisters, Lois Lawrence and Mona Godsey, both of Montana, and Nadine Lewis of Kentucky; six grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.
