Rev. Ernest Hobbie, age 104, of Huron, SD, died Thursday, March 27, 2008, at his home.

Ernest served his Lord faithfully many years and his influence was felt by many.
Ernest Hobbie was born on December 5, 1903, to Dietrich "Dick" and Sophia (Dierks) Hobbie on the family farm near Flandreau, SD. Following his elementary and high school education he remained on the family farm and assisted his father.

In his early 30's Ernest attended seminary at Vennard College in University Park, IA, and was ordained a minister in the Free Methodist denomination in 1950.
On June 16, 1953, Ernest married Pauline Howard at Mt. Vernon, SD.

Ernest later transferred to the Wesleyan Church denomination. Over his ministerial career he pastored churches at Mt. Vernon, SD; Tolstoy, SD; Bushnell, SD; Mission, SD; Almont, ND; and Mobridge, SD. He retired in 1976 and moved to Huron.

He is survived by his wife, Pauline of Huron; 1 son, Douglas (Barbara) Hobbie of Zion, IL; 2 grandsons, Wesley Hobbie of Niles, IL, and Rolland Hobbie of Milwaukee, WI; 1 sister-in-law, Genevieve (Don) Reeves of White Lake, SD; and many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents; and infant son, Stanley Merle Hobbie; 3 sisters, Anna Ernst, Martha Rhoads, and Sophie Ernst; 3 brothers, George Hobbie, Oscar Hobbie, and Walter Hobbie; 3 brothers-in-law, Reiner Ernst, George Rhoads, and John Ernst; 3 sisters-in-law, Kate Hobbie, Matilde Hobbie, and Gladys Hobbie.

His funeral service will be Wednesday, April 2nd, at the Huron Wesleyan Church with Rev. Robert Theis officiating. Burial will be at Restlawn Memory Gardens Cemetery.
