Dale spent his early years milking cows and driving tractors on the family farm. He was a ten year 4-H member. After graduating from Reitz High School, Dale attended Purdue University to study agriculture and met his wife, Elizabeth Ann (Libby) Stafford from Kempton, Indiana. They were married at the Kempton United Methodist Church on August 19, 1956. Their marriage was blessed with three daughters, Beth, Laura, and Barb.
Dale spent many years teaching horticulture for the Indianapolis Public Schools and the Indiana Boys School. In retirement years, Dale and Libby enjoyed traveling and spending time with their grandchildren including attending their activities. Dale enjoyed woodworking or as he referred to it "making sawdust". He was a member of the Central Indiana Woodworkers. His favorite project as a member of the organization was making over 300 toys a year that were distributed to children at Christmas.
Dale is preceded in death by his parents, his beloved wife, Elizabeth (Libby), and his son-in-law, Philip Blandford.
He is survived by his oldest daughter, Beth (Jim) Archer, Laura Riggs, and Barbara Blandford. He is also survived by his brother Lee (Carol) Riggs of Evansville, Indiana. He was blessed with 9 grandchildren and 19 great grandchildren.
