It is with great sadness we announce the death of Howard Dale Alexander, 99 years of age, of Layton, Utah on July 2, 2023.
Howard Dale Alexander entered this life on May 14th, 1924, son of Robert Ray Alexander Sr. and Jessie Parkes. His mother died of tuberculosis when he was six years old which had a lasting impact on his life. Dale was one of five children born in Salt Lake City. His grandmother had a major part of his upbringing, along with his siblings.
Dale graduated from Jordan High of Salt Lake City in 1943. Two weeks after High School, he was drafted into the Army during WWII. Dale was serving in the South Pacific in the Army Air Core and was assigned to the 868th Bombardment Squadron. He was stationed in Okinawa, Japan when the war ended.
After the war ended in December 1945, he then attended LDS Business College. While attending Business College, Dale went on a blind date where he met Virginia McCormick and later married for 74 years. They had 5 children.
Dale worked for the Department of Defense at Hill Air Force Base for 37 years, holding many different positions over his career. After retirement from the Department of Defense, he worked a few different jobs but the one he enjoyed the most was working at Sam's Club as a greeter for 25 years, where he made many new friends and got to see old friends on a regular basis.
Dale has held many callings in the Church of Jesus Christ, including working eight years in the Ogden Temple.
Dale was predeceased by his parents, Robert Ray Alexander and Jessie Parkes, his four siblings, Bobby (Robert), Keith, Carol, and Leroy. He is survived by his wife Virginia and five children, Linda, Doug, David, Richard and Marianne, and sixteen grandchildren, Jennifer, Heather, Robyn, Paul, Kara, Seth, Audrey, Gage, Brian, J'lene, Christy, Scott, Roger, Alexi, Isabella, Preston and thirty-one great grandchildren.
Funeral Services will be held Saturday, July 8, 2023, at 11:00 a.m. at Lindquist Layton Mortuary located at 1867 North Fairfield Road, Layton, Utah 84041.
Friends may visit with family Friday, July 7, 2023, from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. at Lindquist's Layton Mortuary and Saturday from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m. at the Mortuary.
