Nazi leader of the Dutch Socialist movement. In 1936, Mussert met Hitler who later installed him as his hatchet man in The Netherlands. During the Nuremberg trials, he was nicknamed "The Dutch Quisling" but Mussert would claim that he joined the party only to keep his country from falling under attack from the Nazis. He was found guilty of treason in December of 1945 and was executed the following May by a firing squad on the Waalsdorpervlakte, a site near The Hague where hundreds of Dutch citizens had been put to death by the Nazi regime.
