From Schaetter Funeral Home:

The Matagorda Hurricane of 1942 that hit south Texas brought with it Carl Ivan Dobsky on September 4, 1942, a man with the strength and energy of a Hurricane.

Born to Sam (Clarence) and Iantha (Albrecht) Dobsky in Victoria, Texas, he was a strong willed, red headed Texan who was a larger than life "character".

His life was "one hell of an adventure".

From his four years of service in the US Navy as Quartermaster Second Class (QM2); to starting a family and restoring classic cars in Victoria Texas; to canon fire echoing off the canyons in the Rocky Mountains; to sailing the vessels Felicity and Lonesome Dove in Arizona, Georgia, and Texas; to being a lighthouse builder and keeper in the hill country of Texas.

His interests, hobbies, skills, and intrigues were as numerous as they were varied and were an inspiration to so many.

To name only a few:

Mountain Man, Cannoneer, Actor, Writer/Poet, Comedian/prankster, Dancer, Lover of art and beauty, Photographer, Mechanic, engineer, electrician, and builder; Singer, Voyager of land and sea, Linguist, Historian, Telephone lineman and technician, American Citizen, and Texan

He had the ability to:

Make the simplest of moments meaningful and memorable; Dream big and then learn and work until his vision became a reality; Make people laugh; Inspire others; Make others love him and want to be better

Of all things, he had a deep love for family. He was proud of his heritage, proud to be a Dobsky. He loved being a husband, father, and Grandpa. His 6 kids; Carl Ivan II, Tsam Andreas, Tanya Helen, Mikhail Josef, Katya Iantha, Alexei Emil; and 10 grandkids are left with that love of family and of each other because of him. He had many long lasting friendships and the ability to connect with people.

Carl Ivan Dobsky has left a legacy. Because of him:

Victoria Texas has a native son who served the nation; Fredericksburg Texas has a lighthouse; The community of Elk Ridge Utah has special memories of booming cannons; Kids and grandkids share his strength, personality, love of a good laugh, the many beautiful things of this earth, and a good game of dominos.

He ended his journey on this earth on July 1, 2023, the anniversary of the end of his service in the United States Navy, completing what was "one hell of an adventure".

We are so grateful to have had him to teach, inspire, and love us.

As a man of faith and as a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints, he believed that families will continue after this life. We are grateful that he is with his family on the other side and look forward to someday continuing the adventure with him.

We love you! Steady as you go…
