Inscription
In Memory of
the Rev
NEMEHIAH PRUDDEN
who died Sep 7th 1815
in the 33d year
of his Ministry &
in the 66 of his age.
As a Husband &
Father he was tender
& affectionate,
as a neighbor & friend
generous & sincere.
The great & central
doctrin's of the Gospel
he understandingly
believed, &
faithfully preached.
While servile flattery
spreads the hero's fame
And pours her venal
praises on the wise
Jesus tis on the glories
of thy name
The Christians faith
& hopes of heavon relies
Thy precious blood
be all thy servants plea
Thy merits Lord
alone shall speak for me
Be thou faithful unto death
and I will give thee a
Crown of life
Possessed of that
wisdom which is
first pure,
then peacible he was
often employ'd
by the Churches
in council
& by the Great Head
of the Church as
an instrument
in turning any
to righteousness.
