Joseph Nicholas Abreu, Sr., 75, of Harris Street, Pawtucket, Rhode Island, died at the Oak Hill Nursing Home in Pawtucket, Rhode Island following a period of declining death. He was the husband of the late Doris A. (Dupere) Abreu who died on August 15, 2006.

Born in Mansfield, Massachusetts, he was a son of the late John and Maria Abreu. He resided in Pawtucket for many years having previously resided in Central Falls for four years and in Mansfield. He was a 1951 graduate of the former Pawtucket East High School.

Mr. Abreu proudly served his nation as a member of the United States Army having enlisted on December 9, 1952 and serving until his honorable discharge on October 14, 1954 with the rank of Corporal.

From 1953 – 1989, he was employed as a foreman by the former Arbeka Webbing Company in Pawtucket, Rhode Island. Mr. Abreu worked for Fuller Packaging in Central Falls, Rhode Island from 1989 until his retirement in 1994.

A true sports enthusiast, Mr. Abreu was a fan of the Boston Red Sox, the Boston Bruins and the New England Patriots.

He enjoyed playing hand-held computer games; however, his family was of the utmost importance to him and he treasured the cherished memories created when amidst loving family and friends.

Mr. Abreu leaves three children, Laurie A. Kane of Attleboro; Donna M. Santilli of Providence, Rhode Island and Joseph N. Abreu, Jr. of Pawtucket, Rhode Island; 14 grandchildren and 3, soon to be 4, great grandchildren. He was the father of the late John J. Abreu, Sr. who died on May 7, 2006. He was predeceased by all of his siblings.

A Mass of Christian Burial was held at St. Joseph's Church, 208 South Main Street – Route 152, Attleboro, MA. The Rev. Michael Carvill, Pastor, officiated.

In my net searches I came across the obit of my uncle. The point of this e-mail is to correct the last sentence in his obit, "He was predeceased by all his siblings." This is incorrect. My father, his older brother, Fernando Pinto Abreu, age 81, is still alive and well living in Mesa, AZ. All the others, 2 brothers and 2 sisters, have passed on.
