CHERRINGTON DON CARLOS World War II hero and devoted teacher of high school and college Mathematics, was born January 5, 1921 in Salt Lake City, Utah to the late Charles and Mary Cherrington and passed away May 22, 2002 in Sacramento, California. Beloved husband to Shirley for 54 years and father to Gail Duffy, (husband, Ted); Kim Patch, (husband David) and Noel Cherrington, (wife Kaye). Loving grandfather to 12 and great-grandfather to 3. He also leaves behind many beloved nieces, nephews and friends. Preceded in death by his 3 sisters and 2 brothers. Full of life, love and compassion, he dedicated his life to serving his family, church, country, students and friends. Trained as a pilot, he is a veteran of the US Aircorp and Air Force, WWII and Korean Wars, received the Distinguished Flying Cross, Air Medal and Purple Heart. After serving his country he continued his education and embarked on a teaching career at Skyline High School, Oakland; UC Berkeley; USF; and College of Holy Names. Nicknamed by his students "all-heart Cherrington" that legacy followed him throughout his 32 years of teaching. He was active in The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints and served in many responsible positions including two missions in the Oakland, CA Mission Home. Devoted husband, father, teacher and friend his deep faith, example, goodness and sense of humor has touched our lives forever. A private graveside service will be held May 31, 2002 at South East Lawn Memorial Park. A memorial service will be held at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints on June 1, 2002 at 11:00 am, 6711 Seasons Drive, Elk Grove, CA. In lieu of flowers, please send donations to American Heart Assoc., 2007 O St., Sac. 95814.
