Enlisted at Georges Store (now Smithland), Lincoln County, Tennessee on November 10, 1862.

Admitted to Winder Hospital, Division #5, Richmond, Virginia on December 18, 1862 (wounded at Fredericksburg?). Returned to duty December 29, 1862.

Admitted to General Hospital #6, Richmond, Virginia on December 30, 1862.

Present with Company January and February 1863.

Wounded in foot at Chancellorsville, Virginia on May 3, 1863.

On July 3, 1863, during The Battle Of Gettysburg, was one of the first Confederate infantrymen to breach the Union lines during Picket's Charge at Cemetery Ridge (the 'High Point' of the Confederacy.

Wounded and captured at Gettysburg, Pennsylvania on July 3, 1863. Treated for foot wound at Union First Aid Station (Spangler's Farm).

Sent to Camp Lee Parole Camp, Richmond, West Virginia on July 5, 1863 but was returned to Gettysburg with instructions that he had not been exchanged. Was escorted back to Camp Lee Parole Camp a few days later. Entered on a Detachment of Paroled and Exchanged Prisoners at Camp Lee, Richmond, West Virginia Parole Camp on November 23, 1863 and was released.

Captured at Ackland, West Virginia on December 5, 1863.

Released from Wheeling, West Virginia Military Prison on December 14, 1863 after taking Oath of Allegience.

Attended Confederate Veteran's Reunion at Fayetteville, Tennessee in 1888 with his brother Captain Jacob B. Turney (CSA).

Attended Company 'K' Reunion at the home of H. T. Childs on September 28, 1894 at Sulphur Springs, Washington County, Tennessee with his brother Captain Jacob B. Turney (CSA).
