Floyd Lavell Ostler passed away peacefully on Monday, June 12, 2023. He was surrounded by his wife and children. Floyd was born in Provo, Utah on November 7, 1936, to Hettie Bartholomew Ostler and Arthur Lavell Ostler. Floyd's family moved to Springville in 1943, when his parents purchased a farm.

He learned to work at a young age, and he was driving the family truck by the age of ten. His family moved to Provo for a year and then back to Springville, where he graduated from high school. He was on the football team and played in the 1954 State Championship game his senior year, losing to Murray High School.

After graduating from high school, when he was 19 years old, he met his future wife Laural Kaneal Humphrey, who was 16 years old, on a blind date. While dating Laural, Floyd attended BYU for one year and then enlisted in the Army Reserves and spent six months in California at Fort Ord. After his training he enlisted in the Lord's army and spent two years on a mission for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints in the Gulf States mission which included Texas, Louisiana and Mississippi.

Laural patiently waited for Floyd to return from his mission, and they were married on July 20, 1960. Floyd continued his education at BYU and worked at the Bureau of Reclamation. In 1965, Floyd received his civil engineering degree from BYU.

Laural and Floyd were blessed with four children, Mark, Sharon, Calvin and Jeanine. while living in Provo. In 1966 they moved to Duchesne as Floyd continued to work for the Bureau of Reclamation and was part of the many Central Utah water projects that were built in the Uinta Basin during the 1960's and 1970's. While in Duchesne another three children became a part of the family, Laurie, Bryce and Steven. In 1976 the family moved to Pleasant Grove as Floyd had been transferred to the Salt Lake City Bureau of Reclamation office. While in Pleasant Grove, Jon joined the family.

Floyd never stopped being a member of the Lord's army. He has always been an example to those around him and has stood up for truth and righteousness his entire life. He has served in many church callings, but he will be best remembered for his efforts in ministering to those who needed a helping hand.

While in Duchesne, Floyd decided he needed to get in shape, as the Bureau employees had to change the sprinklers on the face of the Starvation reservoir dam. From this time until his body would not let him run anymore, he became an avid runner. For many years he and most of his children had a paper route. Floyd would run his part of the route with the newspapers on his back. He was a main stay at Pleasant Grove's annual Strawberry Days 5k run well into his late 60's. At his request for his 70th birthday, family and friends ran a mile with him around the Pleasant Grove High School track.

Floyd retired in 1996 from the Bureau of Reclamation after 36 years and received one year of additional service for unused personal time. After retiring he went back to school for a year to become a computer programmer and then worked until he was 70 as a programmer.

After almost 44 years of marriage Floyd lost Laural, the love of his life, in 2004. Floyd has always been a people person and losing Laural was especially hard on him.

Floyd became acquainted with Jackie Thornton Brady, who lived on Locust Avenue in Pleasant Grove. Jackie had lost her husband a few years before to cancer and Floyd tried to get Jackie's attention over several months. Jackie was comfortable being single but over time and with the Lord's help Jackie finally agreed to marry Floyd in June of 2006. Jackie and her family have been a tremendous blessing in Floyd and his family's lives. Jackie is an amazing person. She has complimented and been patient with Floyd for nigh on to 17 years.

Floyd is preceded in death by his wife Laural, his parents and brother Elvin Ostler. He is survived by his caring wife Jackie, brother Sam Ostler (Cathy), sisters Carol Fisher and Joan Averett (Mike), children Mark (Debbie), Sharon Kron (Keith), Calvin (Kimberly), Jeanine Bingham (Tracy), Laurie Petersen (David), Bryce, Steven (Stephanie), Jon (Shawna), Jackie's children Alan Brady (Deborah), Leslie Hall (Mack), Jan Weight (Alan), and many grandchildren, great-grandchildren and great-great- grandchildren, family and friends that will love and miss him.
