John A. Piper died at the home of his daughter, Mrs. Charles McGarvey, of Shirleysburg on Monday morning, March 22, 1947, at 9:20 o'clock. Death was due to pneumonia.

He was born at Shade Gap on December 13, 1850, a son of Levi and Eveline Piper, both deceased. At the time of death he was aged 84 years, 3 months and days.

Mr. Piper spent most of his life in Shade Gap, with the exception of a few years he resided in Altoona. He was employed in the Pennsylvania Railroad car shops. He had been a resident of Huntingdon county since 1909.

His wife preceded him in death four years ago, October 9, 1932.

Surviving are the following children: Mrs. W. J. Howell and G. D. Piper, of Pittsburgh, C. J. Piper of Shade Valley, Mrs. P. J. Tray of Homestead, J. J. Piper of Orbisonia, Mrs. Charles McGarvey of Shirleysburg, Mrs. Ralph Carothers, of Orbisonia and Mrs. Ralph Cloyd of Pittsburgh. One son, Thomas Piper is deceased.

Short prayer services will be held at Reihart's funeral home on Wednesday morning, March 24, 1937, at 9 o'clock, and high mass will be said at Saint Mary's Church by the Rev. John A. Kerkoska, of Mount Union, at 10 o'clock. Interment will be made at Saint Mary's cemetery. Friends may call at the Reihart funeral home until the hour of the services.
