A memorial service for David Benson will be at 11 a.m. Monday at St. Paul's Catholic Church in Zumbrota, with the Rev. Timothy Dolan officiating. Burial will be in the Holden Lutheran Church Cemetery in Wanamingo Township, Goodhue County.

Mr. Benson, 54, of Zumbrota, died Wednesday (March 26, 2008) at his home.

David Benson was born Sept. 5, 1953 in Owatonna. He graduated from Zumbrota High School in 1972. He attended Winona State University, and the University of Minnesota Fine Arts Program. On Dec. 1, 1973, he married Carolyne McDonald in Minneapolis. They moved to Zumbrota in March of 1979, and he was employed by his father at Curtis Benson and Sons. He was a member of St. Paul's Catholic Church, and served on the Zumbrota City Council from January 1999 to November 2005. He was a long-time member of the Hiawatha Valley Rifleman's Club, and was a gun safety instructor for the Department of Natural Resources. He enjoyed shooting, military history, and models.

Survivors include his wife; two sons, Matthew and Michael both of Zumbrota; his mother, Mina Benson of Zumbrota; two sisters, Barb Schilling of St. Paul, and Bette (David) Lindquist of Blaine; four brothers, Eugene, Craig, and Ellis (Elaine) all of Zumbrota, and Dale of Mazeppa. He was preceded in death by his father, Curtis and a brother, Butch.

Friends may call from 3 p.m. to 5 p.m. Sunday at the Mahn Family Funeral Home, Larson Chapel, in Zumbrota, and an hour prior to the service at the church on Monday.

Memorials may be directed to charity of donor's choice.
