Mr. Larry "Joe" Shortt, age 71, of Honaker, Virginia, passed away Saturday (June 24, 2023) at his home. Born March 8, 1952 in Buchanan County, Virginia, he was a son of the late Earn Henry and Pearl Mae Street Shortt. A lifelong resident of the area, he was a graduate of Honaker High School and had been employed as a janitor at Honaker Mills. He was of the Pentecostal Holiness faith and attended the Church of the Living God in Honaker. He enjoyed attending church and singing. Joe loved the Lord with all his heart and loved everyone he came into contact with.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two brothers, Lee McKinley Shortt and Troy Edward Shortt, and one sister, Martha Shortt Horton.
Survivors include his wife of forty-nine years, Patty Sue Owens Shortt of the home; one daughter, Cynthia "Cindy" Jane Shortt of the home; three sisters, Virgie Shortt Clark and husband, Joe of Battlecreek, Michigan, Patsy Shortt McKinley and husband, Paul of Summersville, West Virginia, and Madine Shortt Owens and husband, Bill of Abingdon; one brother, Pete Henry Shortt and wife, Dawn of Marshall, Michigan; sisters-in-law, Ann Bostic and husband, Perry, Brenda Boyd Shortt, and Tindara Shortt; several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be conducted at 1:00 PM Thursday in the Honaker Funeral Home Chapel, Honaker, Virginia with Rev. Stevie Street and Rev. Gary Street officiating. Interment will follow in Ketron Memorial Gardens at Lebanon, Virginia.
Pallbearers will be Chad Hess, Terry Hess, Chad Shortt, Brad Shortt, Markie Shortt, Mike Kiser, and Scotty Davidson.
The family will receive friends at the Honaker Funeral Home on Thursday from 12 – 1 PM.
