Thomas L. "Tommy" Ramirez, 61, a lifetime Barstow resident, died Thursday, Aug. 2, 2001. Born in Barstow on Sept. 8, 1939, Ramirez served in the U.S. Navy for four years and the Navy Reserves for 10 years. He worked as a warehouseman for Barstow Unified School District for 34 years. A member of St. Philip Neri Parish and St. Joseph's Catholic Church, Ramirez loved dancing and gardening and was a practical joker with a sense of humor. He was preceded in death by his parents, Donato and Augustina Ramirez, and three brothers, Salvador, Felix and John. Survivors include his wife, Irene Ramirez of Barstow; two sons, Mark and Glen, both of Barstow; a daughter, Dawn Marie of Barstow; four grandchildren, Victoria Jaramillo, Ben Jaramillo, Andrew Ramirez and Augustina Ramirez; four brothers, Donato Jr., George, Andrew and Arthur, all of Barstow; seven sisters, Katherine Hughes, Jennie Chavez and Hortensia Miller, all of Barstow, Charlotte Bricker of Hesperia, Genevieve Ramirez of Apple Valley, Lou Gonzales of Adelanto, and Mary Ellen Smith of Farmersville; and 53 nieces and nephews and 92 great-nieces and great-nephews. Visitation is from 5 to 7 p.m. Wednesday at St. Joseph's Catholic Church, 505 E. Mountain View St., with a Vigil beginning at 7 p.m,. Mass will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Thursday, Aug. 9, 2001 at St. Joseph's Catholic Church. Burial will be at Mountain View Memorial Park, 37067 Irwin Road.
