Earl served as a Staff Sergeant & Radio Operator on C-47A #43-15493, 84th Troop Carrier Squadron, 437th Troop Carrier Group, U.S. Army Air Force during World War II.

He resided in Wisconsin prior to the war.

C-47A #43-15493 took off from Maisoncelles, France on a Glider Towing mission over Wesel, Germany. They were hit and shot down by German anti-aircraft fire and crashed in Germany during the war.

Earl was "Killed In Action" on this mission during the war.

He was awarded the Purple Heart.
