Olympic Champion and Actor. He was a well-rounded athlete who attended the University of Texas at Austin, where he participated in track and was also a member of the Silver Spurs. Although he played football for both the Los Angeles Rams and the Pittsburgh Steelers, he never got to play in a regular season game for either team. In 1952, while still an amateur athlete, he emerged victorious at the Amateur Athletic Union championships in the 100 m category. Additionally, he ran the first leg of the 4-man relay team that won a gold medal at the Helsinki Olympics held the same year. Following his stint in sports, he went on to become a professional rodeo cowboy and a stuntman, featuring in several notable movies such as "The Alamo," "The Comancheros," and "How The West Was Won," among others. His achievements earned him many accolades, including inductions into the Texas Rodeo Cowboy Hall of Fame (2006) and the National Multicultural Western Heritage Museum and Hall of Fame (2009). He was also named an "All American Cowboy" and was a member of both the Texas Track and Field Coaches Association Hall of Fame and the Hollywood Stuntman's Hall of Fame. Sadly, he passed away at the age of 91.
