Sammie F. Risley, 78, longtime resident of Ridgway, passed away Tuesday, March 25, 2008 at the Memorial Hospital in Carbondale.

Sammie was born in Ridgway on Aug. 15, 1929, to the late George W. and Pearl (Farley). He served his country in the Army as a sergeant in World War II and Korea and while in the service was awarded a Purple Heart.

He returned to Ridgway and was married to Margaret (Davis) in 1952. He worked for Wabash Valley Farm Service in Ridgway for 30-plus years before retiring. In his spare time he loved to treasure hunt, searching the local area with his metal detector. He was a good husband, father, grandfather, brother and friend; he will be greatly missed.


Sammie is survived by his wife, Margaret Risley of Ridgway; son, Sammie Lee Risley of Ridgway; son, George (Marilou) Risley of Ridgway; son, Keith Risley of Ridgway; son, Scott (Melissa) Risley of Ridgway; grandchildren, Charles, Kris, Kyle, Raven, Zane and Gage; great-grandsons, Cody and Joey; and sisters, Mary Lou Mobley of New Haven and Helen McCain of Jonesboro.

Visitation for Sammie will be 5 to 8 p.m. Wednesday, March 26, 2008, at the Cox and Son Funeral Home in Ridgway with the funeral service at 2 p.m. on Thursday, March 27, 2008, at the funeral home. Interment will be in Jackson Cemetery with military rites by the Ridgway American Legion.
